Why this is not simply another Hallberg-Rassy 42E?
Over the past six years more than 300 individual improvements have been carried out with one goal: creating the finest and most reliable HR42E currently available.
Instead of buying a yacht and spending the next two years and €100,000 replacing standing rigging, teak deck, portlights, hatches, electronics, batteries, plumbing, upholstery, underwater coating and countless other systems and jobs, you can simply step aboard and cast off.

This model is known for its comfort during cruising on the open waters and can easily be operated by one person from the center cockpit.
All rigging has been renewed in 2020 and lights replaced with LED (except for the deck light), and later a new Raymarine Dobbler Radar was installed.
This 42E build in 1987 has a great flush deck, giving much more space inside than the 42F model built after this with 10 port lights in the side .
This picture was made right after we bough the ship before improvements were made.
This 33kg Mantus Anchor from 2025 is oversized as regular for this ship 25kg and has 80m chain. It gave us a lot of good nights of sleep being able to feel safe behind this anchor.
The KOBRA Anchor winch was installed in 2024 including remote control+depth indicator to walk around or use from the cockpit.
The electric genoa motor has been overhault in 2023 with a new electric motor inside.
A fully integrated rack on the aft with 2 great view seats and space for 3 solar panels of 115w has been made in 2021. There is place for a wind generator on the left. We had one but did not like the noise.
All 50x50cm hatches have been replaced by the Moonlight version , delivered by HR in 2023.
All the 10 old aluminum oxidized portlights have been replaced by brand new Stainless Steel Rutherford models ordered through HR in 2024.
The 6 persons liferaft from 2020 has been recertified until 2028 by Galanos Athens.
Semi Unblocking shades on both sides from 2021 are in very good condition and from 2022 and new spray hood was made in 2026.
The Tempus Tender 250cm with aluminium bottom is from July 2026. With a 1,5hp electric Elite Propulsion outboard from 2025.
The side power bow thruster (age unknown) its relais has been replaced in 2025 and a dedicated 100Amp lead battery is from 2025.
Next to the main sail and Genoa (and spare Genoa) there is a huge Genaker.
With the Bimini (2021) maximum shade can be created with the Bimini extensions made in 2023.
Inside pictures
All the upholstery has been renewed in 2024.
The complete interior has been repainted in 2024 including the sealing, the floors and under the floors.
5 Ceiling lights were replaced with LED models with a blue night mode and 3 brightness positions.
8 spots were replace with LED models with blue night button and adjustable brightness and handy USB connector on the side.
The sofa’s on port and starboard can be turned into huge beds but are also great storage space.
The Mastervolt inverter 12v-2000W installed in 2023
The water filter for drinking water has been connected to the foot pump. A gas and coalmonixide alarm were installed in 2024. In the fridge the compressor, cooling unit and thermostat were all renewed in 2025.
There is a freezer deactivated and used as storage, a VHF Raymarine (2023), a Navtex (2023) and a wifi router with simcard (2026).
The new upholstery in front cabin is supplied in 2024.
The new upholstery in aft is made in 2023 with super silent USB-fans with 4 speed options.
In front head an electric toilet has been installed in 2021 and an 80ltr black water tank behind the sink. A new spare motor for this toilet is on board.
In aft heas an electric toilet was installed in 2021 and in 2024 a washing machine (mini) 3,5kg was added.
For all 4 pieces of 50×50 hatches muscito nets / shades have been installed.
For all 10 new portlight muskito nets have been ordered in 2024.
A vault has been installed in the front cabin with a 4 digit code holding several laptops too.
A waterpump has been installed for the salt water deck wash which can be found in the chain locker.

A dual fuel filter has been installed in 2026. This means you can switch between filters if any problems might occur and change one during motoring.
- Volvo Penta D2-74 (made in 2006 in Sweden) with only 2.450hrs with 105amp alternator.
- The Webasto hot water boiler was replaced in 2026.
- 6x 100Amp lead SERVICE batteries (2026).
- Waterpump replaced in 2023
Electronics
A Raymarine Axiom with Lighthouse version 9 was installed in 2022 and updated in 2025.
All istruments all by Raymarine; 2 from 2022 and 2 from before 2020.
A Quantum Raymarine Doubler Radar has been installed in 2022.
A Mastervolt inverter 12v-2000W has been installed in 2023 connected to 6x100amp lead service batteries placed in April 2026.
The AIS receiver and transmitter to be able TO SEE and BE SEEN has been installed in 2022.
The Epirb for your world wide MAY-DAY message with a battery approved until 2030.
This Hallberg-Rassy 42E is currently cruising the beautiful Greek islands and will be hauled out in Karlovasi, Samos, on 24 August 2026, where she will be available for inspection. The original Hallberg-Rassy factory specifications can be found on the Hallberg-Rassy website.

During our search we visited and compared a number of Hallberg-Rassy 42s throughout Europe. One thing became very clear: the 42E is a very different yacht from the later Frers-designed HR42F. Thanks to her flush deck, the HR42E offers significantly more interior volume, larger cabins and a much more spacious feeling below deck, making her an outstanding cruising yacht for extended stays aboard.
Naturally, this is not a new yacht. However, virtually every major system that owners of similar yachts eventually need to replace has already been renewed or upgraded during our ownership. Standing rigging, portlights, hatches, electronics, batteries, plumbing, upholstery, underwater hull restoration, navigation equipment, anchoring system, solar installation and countless other improvements have already been completed.
Simply replacing the 33 m², 12 mm teak deck would cost around €60,000 today (if available??). When you add the many other upgrades listed on this page, it becomes clear that purchasing a less expensive yacht and bringing it to the same standard would require a very substantial additional investment, both financially and in time.

80 str black water tank with deck suction and flush at bottom without any motor.
Full cleaning of both Diesel tanks has been done in 2024.
Windows needed repairs or replacement. We replaced these.
The old oxidized port lights have been replaced with stainless steel models from Rutherford. Much easier to open than the old models 🙂 and better looking too.
Huge improvements after paint jobs.
Complete restaurantion of the underwater ship back to gelcoat. Then added 2 layer of primer and then Insulate anti fouling.
Together with new porlights repainting all 3 the blue lines
The front closets was split with hanging and shelves and all repainted. In the back the haning has been replaced with shelves.
Extended swim platform with shower.
All water hoses replaced.
A double diesel pre-filter was installed in 2026. You can switch which filter is used so you can change the other white the motor is still running if necessary.
