Course anchoring and Greek mooring i.c.m. sailing vacation.

In Western Europe, we usually moor at a jetty or in a box in a marina. In Greece, on the other hand, you spend about 90% of the time behind your anchor or on a quay, tied with a stern line and an anchor or mooring line in front. But in a bay, you can also be between an anchor and tree or rock. Imagine your anchor gets entangled with another chain, how do you get free again in an easy way? Moreover, in Greece there are many islands with high mountains that affect the wind, making for very variable conditions. In short, if you are planning to sail in Greece, it is a good idea to spend a week with Tranquilo first. That way you can learn the ropes and in the meantime enjoy the clear blue warm water and bright sunshine.

  • Anchor front and back line to the trees. How do you tackle that and what options do you have?
  • Anchor ahead and back line to the dock, but what can go wrong. How to work as a team when docking.
  • Due to mountains on islands, the wind can suddenly turn 180 degrees, which can create dangerous situtations if you are not aware of it. Fall winds are also present near mountains. What do you need to watch out for?
  • How do you free the anchor when another anchor chain has been pulled up, in a safe and easy way?
  • Mooring in a marina without poles and not alongside as we are used to can be quite tricky and especially with strong winds.

This classic Hallberg Rassy 42E has been extensively renovated in recent years and is based on Samos. The ship including captain Rob (57) can be booked in its entirety for up to 5 guests for a vacation with optional sailing course in Greece.

So this is not a basic course in learning to sail. If that is desirable, it will be by mutual agreement.
